Translate your option sets and default texts

If you sell in more than one language, you can translate what your customers see: the texts of your option sets (names, values, tooltips and error messages) and the built-in texts of OPTIS (labels, error messages and instructions). OPTIS shows the translation that matches the language your customer is browsing your store in.

Translation and the Translation Texts settings are available on the Advanced plan and above. See Plans and feature availability.

Go to Settings > Translation Texts. There are two parts:

  • Default text customization - change the wording of the built-in texts in your main language.
  • Option set translation and Default text translation - translate your option sets and the built-in texts into other languages with a spreadsheet.

Change the built-in texts (Default text customization)

Use this to rename the built-in labels, error messages and instructions that OPTIS shows on your storefront. Choose the page, edit the text and click Save:

Product page

  • Error message: Option {{Option name}} is required, Min character / Max character / Characters, Min value / Max value, Min selector / Max selector, Min quantity / Max quantity, File size, Number of files, Invalid time, Invalid date range and Email format is invalid.
  • Live preview: the label of the live preview size field.
  • File upload: the Choose file button text and the Dropzone instruction ("or drop file to upload").

Cart page

  • In-cart Editing: Edit options, Update and Cancel.
  • Discount box: Apply, Enter your discount here, Discount field must not be blank, Invalid error and Discount.

Checkout page

  • Price add-on: Selection extra fee for {{Product title}}.

A preview next to the form shows how the text looks. Use Reset to go back to the default wording. Keep placeholders such as {{Option name}} and {{Product title}} in your text: OPTIS replaces them with the real name.

Translate into other languages

Both Default text translation (built-in texts) and Option set translation (your option sets) work the same way with a translation file:

Step 1: Sync data and download the translation template

Click Download. OPTIS syncs your data and gives you a template file (.xlsx or .csv) that contains all the texts to translate:

  • For Default text translation: the built-in labels, error messages and storefront instructions.
  • For Option set translation: the texts of your option sets (names, values, tooltips and error messages).

If there is nothing to export yet, the app shows No data to export yet. Create your option sets first and try again.

Step 2: Edit the template

  1. Open the template file.
  2. The first row contains the language codes (for example en, fr, ja). The second row shows the language name of each code (for example English, French, Japanese).

  1. Find the column of the language you want to translate.
  2. Type your translations in that column, matching each row with the original text in the Default column.

  1. Only edit the columns of the languages you want to translate.

Do not edit the first 3 rows and the first 2 columns of the default text template. In the option set template, do not edit the first 3 rows and the first 3 columns.

Step 3: Upload the traslation file

  1. Click Upload your file and choose your file. It must be a .csv or .xlsx file smaller than 20 MB.

  1. Click Upload and continue, then verify your translation file when the app asks you to. If the structure is not correct, you see File structure is incorrect: fix the file and upload it again.

  1. Click Apply translations. When it is done, you see This translation file is successfully applied to your store.

After the import, OPTIS shows a summary such as "Found 120 text keys with translations for 3 languages", and any new languages that will be enabled.

To replace the translations, click Click to replace and upload a new file. To remove everything, click Clear translation data and confirm. This cannot be undone.

Each part has a short tutorial video: How to translate OPTIS default text and How to translate OPTIS option sets. If you need help, click Contact support.
