File Upload


A File Upload lets customers upload their own file directly on the product page - a photo, a logo, or another file for a personalized product.


Plan: File upload is available on the Advanced plan and above. On the Free plan you can still try it on one live product with a Premium option set. See Plans and feature availability.



When to use a File Upload


  • Custom products - artwork for personalized t-shirts, mugs, phone cases.
  • Print services - business cards, resumes, banners.
  • Design orders - personal images or brand logos for marketing materials.


How to add a File Upload option

Step 1: Add the option


Open 1. Add options, click Add option, tick File upload under Others on the New options tab, then click Add options.



Step 2: Name it


Enter the Label on product (e.g., "Upload Your Photo"). Use Label on cart if you want a different name in the cart and in the order.



Tick any options below based on your needs:


  • Required field if customers must select before adding to cart




  • Hide option label to hide the label above the upload button




Step 3: Save and test


Click Save, then open the product page on your store to check that the File Upload works correctly.



Option settings


Set only what you need - all of the settings below are optional.




File settings


Control what customers can upload:


  • Accepted file types - All files (any extension), Images (jpeg, jpg, png, svg, tiff, tif), Documents (pdf, doc, docx, html, htm, xls, xlsx, txt) or Custom extensions (type each extension in Custom file extensions).
  • Max number of files - up to 5 files on Advanced, up to 20 on Platinum and Unlimited.
  • File size - no size setting on the option itself; the maximum per file is 20 MB on Advanced and 50 MB on Platinum and Unlimited. The limit is shown under the upload button, and customers see an error if a file is too large.



Help text


Add a short note such as "High-resolution files only" or "Accepted formats: JPG, PNG", shown as a Tooltip, Below the option title, Beside the option title, or Below the option.



Show or hide with Visibility (conditional logic)


Show or hide the File Upload based on another option, for example only when the customer chooses "Add image". Available on the Advanced plan and above. Note that a File upload option can be shown or hidden by other options, but it cannot be used to trigger another option's visibility. See How to set up Conditional logics?.



Preview the upload on the product (live mockup)


Let customers preview their uploaded image or logo directly on the product in real time before adding it to the cart. Available on the Platinum plan and above. See Product Personalizer - Live Mockup Settings.



How the upload area looks


This is a store-wide setting. Go to Settings > General Settings > Option type setting > File upload display and choose:


  • 1 file per row (default) - a drag-and-drop area with Choose file and "Or drop file to upload"; each uploaded file is listed on its own row.
  • Multiple files per row - a Choose file button; uploaded files are shown side by side.


You can rename the Choose file and drop-zone texts in Settings > Translation Texts. See Translate the "Choose File" of File Upload.
